Beyond the Open Bar: Inclusive Team Events for a Workforce That Drinks Less
The happy hour has long been the default team event. But the workforce is changing, and the open bar no longer includes everyone.
A workforce that drinks less
In Gallup's 2025 survey, just 54% of American adults said they drink alcohol, the lowest level Gallup has ever recorded, and only 50% of adults under 35 said they drink. For a team event built around the bar, that means a lot of people standing at the edge of the room.
How to plan for everyone
Make the alternatives first-class
A soda water with lime is not an alternative. If half the room is not drinking, the non-alcoholic options deserve the same care as the cocktails.
Build the event around something to do
Tastings, workshops and guided sessions give people a shared focus, so connection does not depend on what is in their glass.
Never make anyone explain themselves
Whether someone drinks, uses cannabis or does neither, the best team events make every choice feel normal.
Where cannabis education fits
Cannabis is already part of many employees' lives, and most have received very little credible education about it. A corporate cannabis event built on education gives teams something genuinely new to learn together, and it is useful whether or not anyone in the room consumes.
Our programs cover dosage, potency and methods of consumption, mindful and intentional use, and creating inclusive social environments beyond traditional alcohol-centered corporate culture. They can be offered as educational seminars, interactive workshops or customized employee-wellness programs.
We educate. We don't encourage consumption.
